Description

Another day on Rain World, and yet another amazing discovery to report:

We have seen another new species. They appear to be medium-sized quadrupeds, with long forearms and shorter legs, similar to great apes. Accordingly, they have also exhibited the ability to walk on two legs for short durations, especially while using tools or weapons.

Yes, you read that right, we have seen clear evidence of both mundane tool use, as well as the brandishing of what are obviously spears. The implication (that we are dealing with intelligent, possibly sapient beings) is immensely exciting. Even more exciting, we have seen them trading and bartering, further evidence of their intelligence.

Regarding coloration, most of the ones we’ve seen tend towards neutral or earth tones (Browns, Greys, and Blacks) with occasional bands of colored or discolored markings, though given the color variation we’ve seen on most of this world's fauna thus far, we shouldn’t assume that to be the extent of their possible coloring.

We’ve been keeping our distance, as we don’t want to spook any of them into unintended hostility, so we’ve been observing from afar for now. We’ve seen them searching around for valuables to bring back to what we can only assume is a den or stronghold of some kind, so we have taken to referring to them as “Scavengers” until we’re able to find a more appropriate designation. We worried at first that they were only interested in trading or stockpiling weapons, but have since witnessed them trading plants and small animals, as well as pearls (which they seem to value above all else.) At the very least, this bodes well for the ability to find some common ground with them, which brings us to the big question.

The team has been in near-constant (mostly good-natured) contention about whether to approach and attempt to make contact with the ones we have observed thus far. Dr. Yang has been particularly energetic in their arguments for doing so, though Dr. Ramirez has been equally enthusiastic about arguing for abstaining. And while I understand her arguments, I’m not sure it’ll be possible to completely avoid interacting with any of them in our time here. Either way, I’ve started collecting a small assortment of pearls, just in case…

Fluffy and cute! Don't know if it was intended, but his eyes glow green very faintly in the dark. Menacing... 5/5, give this scav as many porls as possible.

Fluffy, cute, and adorable. Absolutely zero thoughts going on in that brain. Definately punching him whenever a scav snipes me in my Artificer run.

He's an introvert. He won't stop trying to snatch my pearls, but it was definitely worth it. 5/10 roommate, 100/10 plushie. It honestly shocked me when his eyes glowed in the dark, but that's a pleasant surprise. I will absolutely be yoinking every single plushie available when I'm not in crippling debt with my friend

I love it so much. He fits so perfectly into my little brigade of colourful freaks, and I have become extremely emotionally attached to him. So very soft and the eyes glow great! He has been dubbed asphalt and I will protect him from any artificer that dares to try and hurt him, explosion wounds or not.
