Description

Another day on Rain World, and yet another amazing discovery to report:

We have seen another new species. They appear to be medium-sized quadrupeds, with long forearms and shorter legs, similar to great apes. Accordingly, they have also exhibited the ability to walk on two legs for short durations, especially while using tools or weapons.

Yes, you read that right, we have seen clear evidence of both mundane tool use, as well as the brandishing of what are obviously spears. The implication (that we are dealing with intelligent, possibly sapient beings) is immensely exciting. Even more exciting, we have seen them trading and bartering, further evidence of their intelligence.

Regarding coloration, most of the ones we’ve seen tend towards neutral or earth tones (Browns, Greys, and Blacks) with occasional bands of colored or discolored markings, though given the color variation we’ve seen on most of this world's fauna thus far, we shouldn’t assume that to be the extent of their possible coloring.

We’ve been keeping our distance, as we don’t want to spook any of them into unintended hostility, so we’ve been observing from afar for now. We’ve seen them searching around for valuables to bring back to what we can only assume is a den or stronghold of some kind, so we have taken to referring to them as “Scavengers” until we’re able to find a more appropriate designation. We worried at first that they were only interested in trading or stockpiling weapons, but have since witnessed them trading plants and small animals, as well as pearls (which they seem to value above all else.) At the very least, this bodes well for the ability to find some common ground with them, which brings us to the big question.

The team has been in near-constant (mostly good-natured) contention about whether to approach and attempt to make contact with the ones we have observed thus far. Dr. Yang has been particularly energetic in their arguments for doing so, though Dr. Ramirez has been equally enthusiastic about arguing for abstaining. And while I understand her arguments, I’m not sure it’ll be possible to completely avoid interacting with any of them in our time here. Either way, I’ve started collecting a small assortment of pearls, just in case…

I will never let go of Carl. Yes, his name is Carl. The eyes glow nice in the dark, not sure if that was listed or not cuz I literally just saw the scavenger bundle and wet "NO QUESTIONS ASKED THIS IS MINE". Started asking for pearls the second he got here, but he's just a funky fella. He makes the perfect addition to my collection! He was actually the first piece of merchandise I bought from Sanshee, and honestly? It never disappoints. High quality and very adorable.

My (16 year old) grandson loves it. Very well made. It did get here later than the website said it would. It was around Christmas, so I'm sure they had lots of orders to fill. Thank you

Silly fella. His name is Gerald. I love him, and his eyes glow very bright. My scugs and Razz the pink lizard appreciate his company too. He won't stop asking me for porls though, so there's also that.
